Pressure & Air Retention
For pneumatic chambers, inflatable supports and pressure cushions, review seam design, coating continuity, peel behavior and the target operating pressure together.
Industrial TPU Technical Textile
DERFLEX supplies TPU coated and TPU laminated industrial fabric for manufacturers of flexible tanks, industrial bladders, pneumatic systems, bellows, protective components, environmental control products and welded OEM structures.
Instead of choosing a roll only by GSM or coating thickness, industrial buyers can specify the material around the real stresses of the finished product: pressure, liquid contact, abrasion, flex cycles, temperature, welding method and cleaning exposure.
TPU industrial fabric is a reinforced technical textile in which thermoplastic polyurethane is coated or laminated onto a woven base such as polyester or nylon. The textile core carries mechanical load and controls dimensional behavior; the TPU layer creates a flexible barrier that can be selected for waterproofing, airtightness, abrasion resistance, cleanability and heat-welded seam construction.
For industrial projects, the important question is not simply whether the material is “TPU.” A flexible water bladder, pneumatic lifting bag, machine bellows and repeatedly folded protective sleeve place different stresses on the same polymer family. The base yarn, TPU chemistry, coating side, total mass, surface finish and joining process therefore need to be considered together.
A useful RFQ describes what can fail in service. That makes sample selection and trial production more relevant than simply comparing catalog numbers.
For pneumatic chambers, inflatable supports and pressure cushions, review seam design, coating continuity, peel behavior and the target operating pressure together.
Water contact, humidity, wash cycles and long storage can change the preferred TPU chemistry. Polyether TPU is often considered when hydrolysis resistance is a priority.
Dragging, vibration, folded transport and contact with machine surfaces can make coating thickness, fabric denier and surface texture more important than appearance.
Bellows, foldable tanks and outdoor systems need a structure that remains workable at the intended temperature and after repeated folding or inflation cycles.
The exact medium matters. State whether the product will contact detergent, grease, fuel, hydraulic fluid, saltwater or another chemical so the material direction can be reviewed.
HF welding, hot-air welding and heat sealing use different process windows. Sample trials with the buyer’s actual equipment are recommended before bulk production.
Industrial TPU fabric can be adjusted at several layers instead of treating every project as one standard coated textile.
Often considered when dimensional stability, industrial handling and repeatable roll behavior are important.
Often considered when tear performance, foldability and a softer technical textile structure are priorities.
Can reduce mass when the opposite textile face is useful for handling, bonding, sewing or a specific product construction.
Commonly discussed for air-holding, liquid containment, washable surfaces and products needing barrier protection on both sides.
These ranges are practical starting points for discussion. Final specifications should be confirmed by material tests, fabrication trials and the finished-product service conditions.
| Specification Item | DERFLEX Direction | Why It Matters in Industrial Use |
|---|---|---|
| Base Textile | Polyester or nylon woven structures | Controls tensile behavior, tear resistance, stretch, foldability and dimensional stability. |
| Common Denier | 210D, 420D, 500D, 840D, 1000D, 1680D and custom | Higher denier may support heavier-duty products, but the correct choice also depends on weave, total GSM and coating structure. |
| TPU Chemistry | Polyether TPU / polyester TPU | Selection can be discussed around hydrolysis, water contact, abrasion, oil contact, mechanical behavior and temperature. |
| TPU Structure | Coated or laminated; one-side or two-side | Changes barrier performance, surface behavior, product weight, welding area and handling. |
| Total Weight | Approx. 150–1500 gsm by project | Light grades suit flexible covers and bags; heavier structures can be discussed for containment, bladders and industrial inflatables. |
| Width | Approx. 1.0–3.2 m depending on structure | Wider material may reduce seams, while narrower formats can match converting equipment and handling requirements. |
| Surface | Matte, glossy, smooth, embossed, textured, anti-blocking direction | Surface choice affects friction, appearance, cleanability, roll blocking and welding contact. |
| Color | Standard colors and project-based color matching | Useful for product coding, OEM branding, visibility, maintenance routines and product-line consistency. |
| Functional Direction | Hydrolysis, UV, oil, chemical, antimicrobial, FR or other project-specific options subject to confirmation | Functional claims should be linked to an agreed formulation and test requirement rather than assumed from the generic TPU name. |
| Joining Process | HF welding, hot-air welding, heat sealing or lamination trials | Seam strength and sealing depend on TPU grade, coating side, heat input, pressure, dwell time and seam geometry. |
| Roll Supply | Custom roll length, core, label, pallet and export packing | Recorded roll specifications help converters maintain repeat-order control and reduce receiving ambiguity. |
The material is most useful where flexible construction must combine barrier performance with mechanical reinforcement and heat-sealed fabrication.
Water storage, process-liquid bags, collapsible containers and industrial bladders where the finished product needs reinforced walls and sealed seams.
Air cushions, pneumatic supports, lifting bags, emergency inflatables and pressure structures that require air retention and repeatable weld quality.
Flexible channels, bellows and connection components exposed to movement, vibration, repeated bending, dust or moisture.
Protective covers, sleeves, shielding components and technical barriers where abrasion, wipe-down cleaning and foldability matter.
Containment components, field barriers, emergency storage systems and portable products that require rapid deployment and welded construction.
Tool bags, soft containers, technical packs and specialized OEM products made by converters who need stable roll supply and repeatable joining behavior.
“Polyether vs polyester” and “nylon vs polyester” answer different engineering questions. Treating them as separate decisions creates a clearer specification.
Sample approval should include the buyer’s converting process and final product conditions, not only visual fabric inspection.
State pressure, liquid or chemical contact, abrasion, temperature, flexing, cleaning and expected product life.
Compare base fabric, TPU chemistry, coating side, total weight, width and surface according to the end use.
Check welding temperature, pressure, dwell time, seam geometry, peel behavior, leak performance and handling on real equipment.
Record the approved fabric, color, width, roll length, packing, inspection points and any agreed project tests for repeat orders.
DERFLEX works across coated fabrics, TPU film and laminated textile structures, allowing procurement teams to discuss the material as part of a complete flexible-product system.
Material direction can be discussed from the finished product, pressure, media contact, welding method and service environment.
Projects can compare TPU coated and TPU laminated structures instead of being limited to one construction route.
Width, weight, color, finish, roll length, label and export packing can be discussed for repeat manufacturing programs.
Buyers can use samples to evaluate welding, folding, surface behavior and finished-product performance before bulk orders.
These six internal pages help buyers compare related TPU constructions and application-specific material directions.
TPU can be combined with a reinforced textile base to create a flexible, waterproof or airtight, abrasion-resistant and heat-weldable composite. The final industrial performance depends on the base fabric, TPU chemistry, coating or lamination structure, seam process and working environment.
TPU coated nylon is often considered when tear performance, softer folding and flexible handling are priorities. TPU coated polyester is often considered when dimensional stability and industrial roll behavior are important. Sample testing should confirm the final choice.
Polyether TPU is commonly discussed for water contact, humidity and hydrolysis concerns. Polyester TPU is commonly discussed for abrasion, oil contact and mechanical strength direction. The exact chemical compatibility depends on formulation and the contacted medium.
Many TPU coated or laminated fabrics can be processed by HF welding, hot-air welding or heat sealing. The correct settings depend on TPU grade, layer thickness, coating side, fabric structure, seam geometry and the buyer’s equipment.
DERFLEX can discuss custom base fabric, denier, TPU chemistry, total weight, one-side or double-side construction, color, surface finish, width, roll length, packaging and application-related functional options.
Please provide the end product, service environment, media contact, target weight or reference sample, width, color, coating side, welding method, testing requirement, expected quantity and destination country. This allows a more useful material comparison before sampling.
Tell DERFLEX what the material must hold, seal, resist, flex around and how you plan to weld it. The team can then discuss a TPU industrial fabric direction for sampling and production evaluation.
