Dog Kennel Tarps for Roof and Sidewall Cover Programs

Source dog kennel tarps around the enclosure they need to fit. DERFLEX supplies PVC coated fabric, mesh materials and custom tarp fabrication options for kennel brands, pet-product distributors and facility buyers.

Develop a rain-shedding roof, a breathable shade panel or a coordinated sidewall set with agreed dimensions, reinforced attachments and an OEM packing plan. Start with frame photos and a panel drawing so roof coverage, airflow and daily access are considered together.

01 / Choose by function

Which tarp should cover a dog kennel?

Choose solid waterproof PVC for a properly supported rain-shedding roof, breathable mesh for shade, and separate side panels when partial weather screening is needed.

Dog kennel covers are flexible panels fitted to a kennel or dog run frame. A roof and a sidewall do different jobs: the roof needs a drainage path; sidewalls need a layout that preserves ventilation, gate movement and access. A single sheet wrapped around the whole enclosure rarely addresses all three.

Sun shade for an open dog runBreathable mesh with reinforced edges.Required shade level, mesh openness, finished dimensions and fixing method.Mesh allows rain through. Shade does not establish a safe enclosure temperature.

OEM replacement-cover rangeSeparate roof and sidewall parts for each frame family.Drawing revision, finish tolerances, panel identification and packed components.A nominal kennel footprint does not prove roof-cover compatibility.

02 / Plan the enclosure

Give each panel a clear job.

A kennel tarp system should allow rain to leave the roof while air and people can move through the enclosure.

Show fixed and removable sides on the drawing. Keep the gate swing, latch and inspection routes clear. Where seasonal panels are proposed, identify how each panel is released and stored without leaving loose cords or sharp hardware within the animal's reach.

Place attachments outside the animal area where practical and check reach through the mesh. Tarpaulin is a cover material; it is not chew-proof, an escape barrier or a substitute for a secure kennel frame.

Solid roof + selective side coverage

This is a layout to evaluate, not a universal enclosure design. Confirm ventilation, supervision, drainage and frame loading for the actual site before selecting how many sides to cover.

Illustrative panel arrangement. Roof support, airflow, wind resistance and fastening design require project confirmation; no performance rating is implied.

03 / Measure before cutting

Order to the roof profile, not just the footprint.

A 10 × 10 ft kennel description usually identifies the enclosure footprint. It does not state the fabric distance over a raised or pitched roof.

For a replacement kennel tarp, send the frame measurements and the old cover dimensions separately. Photograph worn corners and fixing locations. An old cover may have stretched, so its size should be checked against the frame rather than copied automatically.

Record the roof path

Measure length along the eave and width over the actual roof surface. Add ridge rise, frame shape and support spacing. Mark whether measurements are frame dimensions or finished fabric dimensions.

Map the attachment points

Show the corner references, grommet center positions, rail diameter and any pockets. Agree a tensioning allowance rather than assuming the tarp should finish flush with the outer frame.

Draw each side independently

Include the exposed height, corner posts, ventilation openings, gate swing and latch clearance. Label left and right as viewed from a stated reference position.

A simple gable-roof measurement check

Developed width = 2 × √[(span ÷ 2)² + rise²]

For a symmetrical straight-sided roof with a 2.00 m span and a 0.40 m rise, the geometric width over both slopes is approximately 2.15 m. This worked example excludes overhangs, hems, pockets, seam allowances and attachment gaps.

Use measured surface distances for curved or irregular roofs. Final cut size follows the approved panel drawing.

04 / Material and finishing

Waterproofing and breathability are different specifications.

Match the panel construction to its function before choosing weight or color. A heavier fabric alone does not establish better fit, longer service life or a stronger roof system.

SOLID COVER

PVC coated polyester

A reinforced fabric with a continuous coated surface for rain-blocking panels. Seam construction, roof slope and edge details determine how the finished cover manages water.

05 / Build the specification

Make the drawing the purchasing reference.

DETAIL / 01

Spread edge loads

Agree the reinforcement and fastening layout together. Closely spaced grommets cannot compensate for weak hems, poor alignment or unsuitable frame anchors.

DETAIL / 02

Keep water moving

Check seams and eaves on the fitted sample. Route runoff outside the enclosure and away from entry areas. Fabric waterproofing does not prevent ponding on a flat span.

DETAIL / 03

Check the finished assembly

Test a production-representative panel with its seams, corners and hardware. A raw-fabric result does not describe the strength of a complete cover or kennel.

06 / Wholesale and OEM programs

Turn a cover into a manageable parts range.

For pet-product importers, kennel manufacturers and distributors, repeat orders depend on more than fabric availability. Use a panel schedule to prevent similar-looking covers from being packed against the wrong frame model.

PART / R

Roof cover

Match roof profile, developed size, eave detail and fixing map to the frame family.

PART / S

Side panels

Separate side lengths, heights, ventilation zones and left/right orientation.

PART / A

Access detail

Record the door opening, latch clearance and any requested removable panel.

PACK / SET

Complete kit

List panel quantities, included fixings, labels and instructions for each carton.

R, S, A and SET are illustrative planning labels, not DERFLEX product codes. Confirm proposed panel features and hardware availability before placing an order.

Facility buyers can use the same schedule for outdoor boarding runs or shelter procurement: identify each enclosure group, replacement frequency and storage plan for removed panels. For brands, maintain separate drawings for each roof shape even when the ground dimensions are the same.

07 / Approve the first article

Verify fit before repeating it in bulk.

DERFLEX's published material and tarp ranges include PVC coated fabrics, mesh, fabrication finishes and OEM supply options. Build the kennel cover program around a confirmed material and a fitted sample.

Agree these sample checks

  • Dimensional fit: finished panel size, roof path, attachment alignment and frame contact points.
  • Fabrication: seam continuity, hem construction, corner reinforcement and grommet retention.
  • Installed operation: drainage, gate movement, planned ventilation and secure storage of removable panels.
  • Material documentation: the selected grade, relevant exposure data and any destination-market requirements.
  • Cleaning compatibility: review the actual detergent, dilution and contact time; check a sample for surface or seam changes.
  • Packing accuracy: panel orientation, quantities, labels, instructions and the approved drawing revision.

Specify evidence for the actual material

Do not infer “pet-safe,” food-contact, chew-resistant or flame-retardant certification from the word PVC. Ask for the documentation required for the intended use and selected formulation.

08 / Prepare a useful inquiry

What should you send for a quotation?

A drawing, a few frame photographs and a quantity breakdown allow a dog kennel tarp supplier to review fit and construction before pricing.

Frame & panel measurements

Units, footprint, ridge rise, roof-surface distances, side heights, gate dimensions, rail sizes and fixing locations. Include the frame model if relevant.

Environment & cover function

Rain cover, mesh shade, partial side screening or replacement set; installation duration, climate, sun exposure, wind exposure and removal plan.

Material & quality requirements

Solid or mesh, preferred color, target weight if known, finishing, cleaning method, sample checks and required material documentation.

Order & packing details

Quantity by size and panel type, trial and repeat demand, branding, included hardware, set packing, destination and requested delivery window.

Three fit errors to resolve early

Using ground width as roof-cover width; copying a stretched old cover without checking the frame; and ordering identical side panels where a gate or ventilation opening changes the layout. A marked drawing resolves these before cutting begins.

Questions before ordering

Dog kennel tarp FAQ

Practical answers for replacement covers, wholesale ranges and custom roof-and-sidewall projects.

Are dog kennel tarps waterproof?

Solid PVC coated fabric can provide a waterproof panel surface when the grade and seams are suitable. The fitted roof also needs support, slope and a drainage path. Breathable mesh kennel covers are for shade and screening; they allow rain through.

Should I use mesh or solid vinyl on the sides?

Use mesh where shade and air movement are the priority. Consider solid removable panels only where weather screening is needed and the enclosure layout retains adequate ventilation and access. Review the number of covered sides, wind exposure and animal access to attachments before approving the layout.

What size tarp fits a 10 × 10 ft dog kennel?

The footprint alone is insufficient. A pitched roof needs fabric measured over both slopes, plus the agreed eave and attachment details. Send the roof profile, ridge rise, surface measurements and fixing map so the finished size can be confirmed.

Can a kennel tarp roof hold snow or strong wind?

No snow or wind rating is assigned on this page. Fabric, roof frame, anchors, support spacing and sidewall coverage affect the assembly. Follow the frame supplier's limits and site requirements; do not treat heavier fabric as evidence of load capacity.

How should grommets and fasteners be specified?

Map grommet centers to the frame and agree reinforcement, fastener type, attachment gaps and tensioning method. Keep loose cords and accessible hardware away from the animal area. Confirm the layout on a fitted sample instead of choosing spacing by a generic rule.

Can DERFLEX support custom sizes and bulk OEM orders?

DERFLEX publishes custom fabric, finished tarp and OEM supply options. Submit the kennel frame drawing, panel schedule, material requirements, quantities and packing plan for review. Custom features, samples, MOQ, price and lead time are confirmed in the project quotation.
