Selection Starts Here

An exhaust hose should be selected as part of an airflow system—not by diameter alone.

An industrial exhaust hose is a flexible conduit used to move contaminated air, fumes, smoke, warm process air or other permitted gas streams from a capture point toward a fan, filtration device or designated discharge path. In many industrial systems the hose works between a hood, machine or portable extractor and the larger ventilation system.

The critical difference is how the hose is used. A suction hose must resist collapse under negative pressure; a positive-pressure blower duct may use a more collapsible structure. Temperature, chemistry, abrasion, sparks, condensate, bend radius and repeated movement can also change the correct material and reinforcement.

DERFLEX specification approach

Define the airflow duty first, then match the coated textile, reinforcement, seam, cuff and optional performance treatments. This produces a more comparable RFQ than asking only for “industrial exhaust hose price.”

Three Construction Paths

Choose the hose architecture before comparing suppliers

Search results for exhaust hose often mix ambient-air ducting, vehicle exhaust tubing, high-temperature fabric hose and general ventilation hose. These product families are not interchangeable.

01
General industrial exhaust

PVC-Coated Fabric Exhaust Hose

Flexible PVC-coated polyester ducting for ambient or moderate-temperature air, workshop ventilation, portable blower connections and many temporary extraction tasks. Spiral wire or rings can be added when the bore must remain open under suction.

02
Negative pressure

Spiral-Reinforced Suction Hose

A shape-retaining exhaust duct with helical reinforcement for negative-pressure extraction, bends and equipment connections. Wire gauge, pitch and wall construction should be coordinated with diameter, fan pressure and route geometry.

03
Elevated temperature

High-Temperature Composite Duct

Hot-air and hot-fume service requires a separate material review, such as silicone-coated fiberglass or another project-matched construction. Standard PVC ventilation hose should not be assumed suitable for direct high-temperature exhaust.

Industrial Exhaust Hose Specifications

Reference specification framework for B2B purchasing

Use the following fields to build a comparable quotation. Values shown are selection references from DERFLEX's existing flexible industrial duct range; the final approved data should be stated on the quotation, drawing, sample or technical document for the exact construction.

Specification itemDERFLEX configuration directionWhy buyers should confirm it
Product formatFlexible industrial exhaust hose / fume extraction duct / blower exhaust ductClarifies whether the product is designed for air movement rather than liquid or bulk-material transfer.
Wall materialPVC-coated polyester for many general-duty applications; high-temperature technical textiles reviewed separatelyTemperature, chemistry, flex life and abrasion resistance depend strongly on the selected wall system.
ReinforcementHelical wire, support rings or project-specific structureNegative pressure can collapse an unsupported hose; reinforcement also affects bending and packed volume.
DiameterApprox. 100–2000 mm reference range; custom sizes can be reviewedDiameter influences air velocity, pressure loss, fan compatibility and handling weight.
Section length5 m / 10 m / customLong sections reduce joints; shorter sections can simplify installation, replacement and storage.
TemperatureStandard PVC ducting reference: about -20°C to +80°C; other heat zones require another construction reviewContinuous, peak and radiant heat should be separated instead of relying on one generic maximum value.
Pressure directionPositive pressure / suction / reversible duty to be statedPressure direction determines whether layflat or shape-retaining reinforcement is appropriate.
ConnectionsClamp cuffs, drawstring cuffs, rings, zippers, belts, adapters or custom fan interfacesCorrect interfaces reduce leakage and jobsite modification.
Optional treatmentsFlame-retardant, antistatic, wear protection or other requirements by named test/specificationSafety-related claims should be tied to the exact construction and requested test method.
OEM detailsColor, printed identification, labels, storage bags and packing can be reviewedUseful for distributors, rental fleets, equipment makers and repeat replacement programs.
Important: a raw material rating does not automatically equal the performance of a finished hose assembly. Seams, reinforcement, cuffs, clamps, chemical exposure, pressure and flexing can become the limiting factors.

Material + Reinforcement + Connection

The finished exhaust hose works as one assembly

Coated textile body

PVC-coated polyester can provide a flexible air barrier, moisture resistance and a weldable surface for many general industrial ventilation duties.

Helix support

Spring-steel or specified wire reinforcement helps the hose retain its bore during suction and controls bend behavior.

Seam construction

Welded or otherwise engineered seams are selected around the chosen textile, diameter, pressure and handling load.

End interfaces

Cuffs, rings, clamps, zippers, belts and adapters can be matched to fan outlets, hoods, machines or replacement duct sections.

Application Engineering

Where flexible industrial exhaust hose is commonly specified

Application names are only the starting point. The actual temperature, contaminants, spark or particulate load, chemical exposure, pressure and ventilation design should be reviewed before a hose is confirmed.

Welding & Fabrication Fume Extraction

Flexible routing between capture hoods or extraction arms and a ventilation/filtration system. Confirm heat, sparks, metal particulate and required fire performance.

Factory Machine Exhaust

Local air and fume extraction around production equipment, enclosures and process stations where flexible routing simplifies connection or maintenance.

Portable Blower Exhaust

Temporary suction or air removal for maintenance, shutdowns, drying and mobile ventilation kits. Reinforcement should match the fan's negative-pressure duty.

Vehicle, Generator & Engine Areas

Engine exhaust can be very hot. Direct exhaust connections require a dedicated high-temperature construction and system review; standard PVC duct should not be used by assumption.

Process & Chemical Fume Routing

Chemical compatibility depends on the actual substance, concentration, temperature and exposure time. Supply this information before material selection.

Dust, Smoke & Contaminated Air

Flexible ducting can connect extraction points to dust/fume control systems. Abrasive particulate, condensate and cleaning method should be considered in the hose design.

FAQ

Industrial exhaust hose questions

What is an industrial exhaust hose?

It is a flexible air-conveyance hose used to route contaminated air, fumes, smoke, warm process air or other permitted gas streams from a capture point to a fan, filtration unit or discharge path. The correct construction depends on pressure direction, temperature, media and the complete ventilation system.

Can PVC flexible duct hose be used for exhaust?

Yes, in suitable general industrial and moderate-temperature exhaust applications. For suction, it normally needs shape-retaining reinforcement. For direct hot engine exhaust, furnaces or other high-temperature sources, a different heat-resistant construction should be reviewed rather than assuming standard PVC is suitable.

What hose should be used for negative-pressure fume extraction?

A spiral-wire or otherwise reinforced flexible hose is usually the starting construction because it must resist collapse when the fan pulls air through it. The final wire pitch, wall material and diameter should be matched to the fan pressure and route.

How do I choose the right diameter for an industrial exhaust hose?

Diameter should be selected with airflow volume, target transport velocity, pressure loss, fan capability, hood or machine connection and total route length. Increasing or reducing diameter without checking the system can change capture performance.

Can DERFLEX customize cuffs and fan connections?

DERFLEX can review clamp cuffs, drawstring cuffs, rings, zippers, belts, adapters and other project interfaces. Sending the fan outlet dimensions, photos or drawings helps reduce fitting errors.

What information is needed for an industrial exhaust hose quotation?

Send the application, media, pressure direction, fan data, diameter, route length, temperature profile, bends, connection style, chemical or abrasion exposure, required test standards, quantity and destination. This allows the quotation to describe a specific construction instead of a generic hose.

System-design note: an exhaust hose is only one component of an industrial ventilation or local exhaust system. Worker exposure control and safe discharge depend on the capture hood, airflow, fan, filtration/air-cleaning equipment, make-up air, discharge location, maintenance and applicable local rules. Heat, combustible dust, flammable vapors and hazardous chemicals require application-specific engineering and safety review.
Project-Based Quotation

Need a flexible exhaust hose matched to your fan and operating conditions?

Send the pressure direction, temperature, media, diameter, length, bend route and connection details. DERFLEX can review a practical coated-textile and reinforced-duct construction for sampling and quotation.
